- Trauma Sensitive Yoga (TSY) groups are currently being funded by ACC ISSC (Sensitive claims) and delivered in Auckland and Dunedin as Short-Term Group Therapy. It is an evidence based adjunctive treatment to talking therapies, bringing the body into treatment.
- There is also evidence supporting its use in those living with chronic pain. This session will briefly outline the main types of trauma, which types of trauma TSY is designed for and the underlying theoretical underpinnings of TSY.
- Participants will leave with an understanding of the five key principles of TSY and why they are important: Language – invitational and interoceptive Teacher qualities Environment Assists/adjusts Exercises/forms/breathing The therapeutic goals of TSY will be explored before an experience of TSY is provided (in chairs) to put the learning into practice.
- This session will end with simple ways to adapt general yoga classes to make all yoga classes more trauma informed.
