Returning to the heart of our practice-yoga philosophy for modern day By Helen Williams

Returning to the heart of our practice-yoga philosophy for modern day

This participatory session will discuss the Yoga Sutra of Patanjali and how we as teachers can use them to theme and inspire our classes. Delving deeper than simply looking at the yama and niyama, we will disuss some of the key themes and underlying learnings from the text.

This is for yoga practitioners who are interested to learn about the Sutra that underpins our asana practice and for teachers who seek to be able to weave a class that’s coherant and meaningful for today’s modern yogi, while still rooted in this ancient wisdom.

You do not need to have experience studying the Sutra.

Learning outcomes:

  • Understand the historic place of the Sutra.
  • Understanding of some of the central themes of the sutra.
  • Discussion and introspective thinking on how the sutra can be and is relevant to our daily life.
  • Discussion and engagement about how we can enliven this ancient text and make it relevant for modern yogic practitioners.
